Rummu quarry and ash-hill

This time I decided to go to Rummu quarry and ash hill. I also thought at length about whether to apply for a permit to fly a drone for a trip there. As the area there is located near the Ämari air base, you must apply for a permit to fly a drone there. But I looked at the weather forecasts and decided that this time I wouldn’t apply for a permit, so the drone stayed at home.

I have visited the quarry and the ash hill there many times, but I have never made a long stop there during the winter, so this time I had to deal with it. The time resources were a bit limited this time, so it was not possible to find the a day with perfect weather. You had to go when you could go. This time the weather was cloudy. When I arrived, it also snowed lightly. But miraculously, at the ash hill a little sunlight peeked out between the clouds, which added a lot to the pictures of the ash hill.

The little trip was easy. From Tallinn through Keila to Rummu quarry. I made two stops there: first at the quarry and then by car to the ash hill. And afterwards the same way back to Tallinn.

The first stop was the quarry. When I got there, I was received by a pretty strong wind and light snow. The quarry lake was completely covered with ice, so unfortunately no special shots could be taken from there.

There on the quarry lake were some strange ice blocks with a hole in the middle.

One tree leaf that had got stuck under the ice cover caught my eye.

Then I drove to the ash hill. I didn’t know at all if it could be reached by car at the moment, because the road may not be open. But it was. Somewhere nearby, forestry work was underway, which is why forestry trucks drove through there. I found a place to park the car.

As mentioned earlier, at that moment the sun occasionally began to peek out from behind the cloud, which added colour to the images of the ash mountains. Since the lake was also under a full ice cover there, I didn’t take a long walk there. I took pictures here and there and came back to the car.

Before going home I had a small lunch and thus concluded this small trip.
